Samtel Technology Lab , the R&D wing of the company, develops world class technologies and contemporary products which are manufactured in its plants. STL has developed the 42? SD Plasma Display Panel (PDP) technology on its own and development is on for 50? HD.
Samtel has also set up Samtel Centre for Display Technology jointly with Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur located on the premises of IIT Kanpur which is actively developing the Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) technology and prototypes , a state of the art technology for electronic displays, e.g. HUD, HMD, MFD, etc.
Samtel Display Systems (SDS) is a key Indian player in high-technology products for commercial and military avionics applications in both Indian and international markets. SDS straddles the entire value chain from design, development, manufacture, testing, qualification, repair & maintenance and obsolescence management of avionics products and equipment for military as well as commercial aircraft. Its products include Color Avionic Tubes (CAT), Multi Function Displays (MFD), Head Up Displays (HUD), Helmet Mounted Displays (HMD), Automated Test Equipments (ATE) and IADS, as well as Control Displays for Armored Military Vehicles. SDS has long-term partnerships with Thales and Honeywell for supply of full color cockpit displays for Airbus and other commercial aircraft. SDS also has JVs with Thales for production of Helmet Mounted Displays and other avionics, and with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to address the avionics requirements of HAL.
