Prestigious U.S. Universities Learn More About Their Data With the SAP BusinessObjects Portfolio
WALLDORF, Germany - December 17, 2009 - SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced that two prestigious universities in the United States are implementing solutions from the SAP® BusinessObjects™ portfolio, further establishing SAP's presence in the higher education market. Duke University and the University of Nebraska have selected SAP BusinessObjects business intelligence (BI) solutions to provide comprehensive visibility of research, fundraising and spending across their operations. This announcement demonstrates how BI contributes to the education of a new generation of students and helps colleges and universities enhance their business operations.
The University of Nebraska is comprised of four distinct campuses and just recently extended its SAP system to Nebraska State College System. The university will use SAP BusinessObjects solutions to expand reporting capabilities across both organizations, provide improved analysis of multiple data sources and present business information to its executive audience using visually appealing and easy-to-interpret dashboards. The university selected SAP BusinessObjects BI solutions for their simplicity. It will now be able to provide employees with self-service access to data and intuitive information analysis, helping them to make better-informed decisions. As an existing SAP customer, the university will also use the new solutions to evaluate data from the enterprise resource planning (ERP) application SAP® ERP. Xcelsius® software, an interactive data visualization solution and part of the SAP BusinessObjects portfolio, will give administrators a consolidated view of key metrics, allowing them to answer business queries at a glance. The University of Nebraska's implementation of SAP software encompasses all aspects of institutional business operations and includes finance, human capital management and logistics capabilities.
"The suite of reporting tools from the SAP BusinessObjects portfolio offers additional flexibility and options in reporting data, including the ability to deliver dashboard presentation of management information," said David Lechner, vice president for Business and Finance, University of Nebraska. "Our user community looks forward to applying existing knowledge of Crystal Reports software, while exploring the possibilities offered by new tools such as SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence and Xcelsius."
Duke University, a longtime SAP customer, is currently implementing a component of the SAP® Customer Relationship Management (SAP CRM) application for fundraising operations. The CRM system overhaul was an ideal time switch to a new set of BI solutions to address this need. In addition to reporting on fundraising, Duke plans to use Crystal Reports® software for better insight into budgeting, HR, payroll and finances, including sponsored research programs and vendor spend. Administrators will use this information to help optimize the university's organization of finances. Implementation of Crystal Reports has already begun, and is scheduled to go live by the end of 2010.
"Crystal Reports gives us an important additional tool to provide improved reporting to our users," said Todd Orr, assistant vice president for Administrative Systems, Duke University. "The software provides us with the ability to generate highly formatted reports across all the functional areas supported by SAP at Duke within our SAP portal environment. Given our long history with SAP and SAP BI, it is important for us to use a reporting tool that is part of the BI solutions from SAP."
"Higher education organizations have a long history of relying on the SAP BusinessObjects portfolio to eliminate knowledge shadows and to simplify decision-making," said Marge Breya, executive vice president and general manager, Intelligence Platform and SAP NetWeaver Group, SAP AG. "These new customer deployments show the continued importance of business intelligence solutions in the area of higher education. Universities are eager to increase visibility into all aspects of their institutions: student services, admissions, finance and alumni support. Business intelligence solutions from SAP allow them to bridge the information divide between the 'technically capable' and the 'professionally informed.'"
